Most of the Earth’s surface is made up of water, which means there is a lot to explore. The RFMO is a group of countries who’ve gotten together to determine how fish should be managed, with usually multiple representatives from each country. While they convene once a year, it’s hard to analyze all the data gathered and where to start. While we can’t count how many fish are in the ocean, one way to combat this is to collect data on how many fish are being caught. A method that could help this data analysis and retrieval is Electronic Monitoring.
Through EM, fisheries get more information on bycatch. By increasing overall oversight of the fisheries, this will ensure compliance and general regulation of fishery rules.
